Top 10 Time Travel Movies List
1. Primer (2004)
intelligent and self consistent. The plot keeps follows a logical path without spoon feeding time travel theory.
2. Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann (1982)
The most unique Time Travel film, because the protagonist doesn't know he is displaced in time. The reactions of the people in the past to his appearance are varied and understandable.
3. Donnie Darko (2001)
This movie grabs your emotions and kicks them around. Start by casting the hero in a bad light, but make you love him by the end of the movie. This is the most artistic time travel movie.
4. Butterfly Effect (The) (2004)
Simply a good story. Although the ending was predictable, it was well done. A great example of this style of time travel.
5. 12:01 (2005)
Time loops! Time loops are always fun, and this movie is just that. A fun movie with likable characters.
6. Run Lola Run (1998)
More parallel universe then time travel. The same 20 minutes told three time with different outcomes. A great example of causation.
7. Final Countdown (The) (1980)
On the surface this seems run of the mill, but it explores the question of interference in the past with the most powerful weapon on the planet. If you get stuck in the past do you have a duty to change it?
8. Groundhog Day (1993)
More time loops than any other film. Just a funny heartwarming film. Not all time travel has to be deep and thought provoking.
9. Somewhere in Time (1980)
This is the most romantic film I can think of. brilliant plot executed perfectly. Great performances by an outstanding cast.
10. Trancers (Future Cop) (1985)
Not too deep, but not too ridiculous. Not a great example of time travel itself, but better then most. Great characters, and just plain fun.
